Section 40
May suspend certificate of registration

(1) The authorized officer may issue an order suspending the registration certificate of a vehicle for the following period in the following cases:-
(a) for the period until the vehicle is repaired satisfactorily if it appears that the vehicle is in a bad condition and its operation is likely to cause injury to the life or property of the general public, and
(b) For up to six months if the owner of the vehicle drives the vehicle without fulfilling any conditions required to be fulfilled according to this Act or in violation of the order given by the authorized officer within the scope of this Act or the rules made under this Act.
(2) When ordering the owner of the vehicle to suspend the certificate of registration in accordance with sub-section (1), the authorized officer must also clearly disclose the reason.
(3) If the certificate of registration is suspended in accordance with sub-section (1), the authorized officer must inform the relevant police office.
(4) If the certificate of registration is suspended according to subsection (1), the owner of the vehicle must submit the certificate of registration to the authorized officer within seven days from the date of the order by the authorized officer.
(5) After the expiry of the suspension period of the registration certificate, the authorized officer shall return the registration certificate submitted by the vehicle owner as per sub-section (4).
(6) When the certificate of registration is returned to the owner of the vehicle in accordance with sub-section (5), the authorized officer shall make it clear in the registration book that the period and reason for the suspension of the certificate of registration must also be mentioned in the record book.
